David M. Goldenberg

“As soon as I was old enough to realize what a lawyer was, I planned to become one.”

David focuses his work on cases involving Catastrophic Personal Injuries (car wrecks, tractor-trailer wrecks, oilfield injuries, etc.), Employment Law, and Medical Malpractice. With the help of good, solid clients and a dependable office staff, the Firm has been fortunate enough to obtain a number of high-end results for clients. However, we do not list those here individually because every case is unique with different facts, we do not want to create unrealistic expectations, and those that settle are generally confidential as a condition of the settlement.

Fourth-Generation Lawyer.

David M. Goldenberg comes by his chosen profession of law naturally, continuing a family line, now four generations long, of lawyers practicing in the Parkersburg area. His paternal great-grandfather (Thomas Aldorado Brown) practiced law in Wirt County and Parkersburg from 1889 to the late 1920’s, including service as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia from 1921 – 1926. His maternal grandfather (Isaac Maxwell Adams, Jr.) came from Jackson County and practiced law in Parkersburg from 1913 – 1950. His father Robert T. Goldenberg began his long and honored legal career in 1951, and is still working as Senior Counsel to the Firm to this day.

David’s parents instilled in him an understanding and appreciation for the values of personal responsibility and accountability, and the value of hard work. His pre-law jobs included ditch-digger, general laborer on residential construction, fast-food worker, factory worker at A.B. Chance in South Parkersburg, two jobs simultaneously during college as a dishwasher/cook at a steakhouse and as a library assistant at the WVU Medical Center Library, and as an EMT (Emergency Medial Technician) on a volunteer basis.

David earned his undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a major in Finance, from West Virginia University. Although he was accepted into the post-graduate Masters in Business Administration (MBA) program, David chose instead to pursue a law degree. During his education at the WVU College of Law, David participated in extra-curricular activities geared to trial work. He was a founding member of the Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Competition, was a winner of the Lugar Cup Trial Competition, and was one of only two 2nd-year law students from 122 law schools to compete in the National Student Trial Competition. After receiving his Juris Doctor degree from the College of Law, he returned to Parkersburg to practice law with his father, and is a founding member of The Goldenberg Law Firm, PLLC.

Trial Lawyers College.

After practicing law for 15 years, David was one of only 48 lawyers chosen from a national pool of applicants to attend the prestigious Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College in Wyoming. David completed the intensive month-long course of study and courtroom work under the tutelage of a number of giants of the legal profession, including Gerry Spence, Richard “Racehorse” Haynes and Morris Dees. After completion of his course of study, David was asked by Gerry Spence to then serve on the teaching staff of the Trial Lawyers College as a member of the faculty. The Trial Lawyers College was a tremendous growth experience for David, both professionally and personally. Not only did his work at the Trial Lawyers College sharpen his legal skills with many new ideas, his experience in working with lawyers from all over the country greatly multiplied his national contacts. Because of his time touring the country with Mr. Spence conducting Continuing Legal Education seminars, and his years as a Faculty member of the Trial Lawyers College, David has close friends and lawyer referrals in almost every state in the country. With this advantage, he has been able to co-counsel cases in numerous states. David also met his wife (a Montana native and Pharmacist) at the ranch which houses the Trial Lawyers College. David and Shayla were married there in an outdoor ceremony, and now have three incredible daughters (Briella, Jenna and Alyssa).
